Profit on recurring earnings at state-owned bank Banco do Brasil rose 14% in the second quarter to $1.3 billion, the bank reported Thursday. With the result, profits in the first half of the year were up 2.2% to $2.3 billion. Bank officials said earnings during the quarter were favorably influenced by a growing credit operations, which rose 2.8% from the first quarter to $316 billion. Lending to individual borrowers was up 2% from the first quarter, while lending to businesses rose 3.7%. With the latest results, the bank’s total assets reached $616 billion in the quarter, up 2.3% from the first quarter. Banco do Brasil ADR shares rose 4.5% following the release of the results Thursday to trade at $12.66 per share.
