Brazil’s grains harvest will expand by 2.6% in the 2013-14 growing season to 193.47 million tonnes, government agricultural supply agency Conab reported. Conab estimated that the country’s soybean crop would rise 5.1% to 85.7 million tonnes in the current harvest, while corn production is seen declining 3.6% to 78.6 million tonnes. The country’s wheat crop, meanwhile, is seen increasing by 35.7% to 2 million tonnes. Conab said the expansion of the grains harvest this season was favored by increased area planted and adequate climate conditions. Total area planted rose 6.1% to 53.6 million hectares. Soybean area rose 8.7% to 30.1 million hectares, while corn area rose 0.4% to 15.76 million hectares. Brazil’s wheat growing area rose 20.7% to 2.6 million hectares, the agency said.
